Bee keeping in Vietnam

Hi all,

I'm Cong. I come from Vietnam. Now, I'm a student studying in Wellington, NZ.

My family (my aunts, uncles, brothers, my father's brothers...) are beekeepers and we have been working in this field for more than 20 years. My father is quite success since he has been raising around 3000 bee hives recent years. I know that beekeeping in Vietnam and NZ is quite dissimilar, so we might have a lot to talk about.

First of all, I'm not good at English. Although it's really hard to me to describe something, I will try my best.

I don't know where to start so I will let you ask question first. It can be any such as how we extracting honey, bee diseases in Vietnam, using axit formic, equipment we use, creating a queen bee... (My father is a worker only, after extracted honey, we will sell raw honey. So, the processes after that we might not know).

Many things I don't know and I will need to ask my father first then I will answer. Feel free to ask me.

I want to have some beekeeping experiences in NZ, Is there any suggestions?

Forgive me if I make any mistakes.

What breed of bees to you use.

Welcome along to the forum Cong

After have a look at some picture about bee in this page, I think we have a similar breed of bees. We raise Italian Bees. We do not use domestic bee to make honey because they are just about a half size and really hard to keep them.

Welcome thanks for posting. Do all your hives consist of a single box? Looks so different

Each box is a home of a single hive(1 queen, thousands of bee worker, and few male bees). you can see a picture below, hope it is easier for you to image.

Do you have a varroa problem?

I don't remember much but at least, there are two main type of varroa we got. 1 is black color and 1 is white color. We use formic axit and a some kind of drugs (come from China) to kill them. (I will ask my father for which kind is used to kill which kind of varroa).
